Savory Breakfast Rolls with Gravy
Serves 4
INGREDIENTS FOR THE ROLLS:
1 8 oz pack of diced ham
6 large eggs
1 tbsp butter
1 tbsp Olivelle Caramelized Garlic Infused Olive Oil
1 cup shredded cheddar
1 cup Colby Jack cheese
Salt and pepper, to taste
2 packs store bought crescent rolls
FOR THE SAUSAGE GRAVY:
1/2 lb breakfast sausage
3 tbsp butter
3 tbsp all-purpose flour
2-1/2 cups whole milk
1/8 tsp garlic powder
1/8 tsp onion powder
Salt and black pepper, to taste
DIRECTIONS:
1. Sear the diced ham:
Heat oil in a skillet on medium high heat, sear the diced ham until browned. Set aside in a bowl.
2. Scramble the Eggs:
In a bowl, whisk the eggs. Heat 1 tablespoon of butter and 1 tablespoon Olivelle Caramelized Garlic Infused Olive Oil over medium-low heat, then add the eggs and cook gently, stirring often, until just set (they'll finish cooking in the oven). Remove from heat and season with salt and pepper.
3. Assemble the Rolls:
Grease or line a 9" x 13" baking dish with parchment. Unroll one pack of the crescent rolls out onto a clean flat surface then unroll the second pack and lay it directly on top of the first. Roll them out together into an even thickness 13" x 13" square. Evenly spread scrambled eggs, diced ham, and cheese over the rolled out sheet then roll the dough into a log. Cut the log into 8 even slices, just like you would prepare cinnamon rolls. Arrange the 8 rolls 2 x 4 in the prepared baking dish. Preheat the oven to 350 F.
4. Bake:
Bake rolls uncovered for 30-35 minutes, until golden brown and the dough is cooked through.
5. Make the Sausage Gravy "Frosting":
While the rolls are baking heat 1 tablespoon of avocado oil in a skillet on medium high heat then cook 1/2 lb sausage until crumbled and browned. Remove the sausage and set it aside in a bowl. Add butter to the hot skillet used to cook the sausage then turn the heat down to medium. Stir in flour and cook 1-2 minutes. Gradually whisk in milk, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper and cook until slightly thickened. Add the sausage back in the skillet and continue to stir until it has fully thickened. Taste and add additional salt and pepper as needed.
6. Finish & Serve:
Spread the warm sausage gravy over the baked rolls like frosting. Serve immediately and watch them disappear!
